    Exceptional English language tradition

The American Language and Culture Institute (ALCI Chico) was founded at California State University, Chico in 1979. Since then, it has provided intensive English language education for thousands of students from more than 90 countries. The ALCI Chico curriculum includes specialized core courses (speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar) and a choice of electives, such as pronunciation, American idioms, cross-cultural awareness, business English, survival English and academic preparation. In addition to providing high-quality English language instruction, the faculty and staff help students make the most of their academic, social and travel experience in California.

    Study at a world-class institution

More than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs are offered, including business administration, computer science, engineering, construction management, teacher education, social sciences, art, music, agriculture and public administration. CSU Chico is consistently rated among the best Western public universities in U.S. News and World Report’s annual America’s Best Colleges guide, while the Princeton Review consistently ranks Chico State within its ‘Best Business Schools’ listings.

    Enjoy the stunning surroundings

Chico is ranked among the five best university towns in the western US. Its beautiful parks and tree-lined streets make Chico a wonderful place to live and study. The university town is relatively free from the crowding and pollution problems that are often found in larger cities, and the cost of living is considerably lower than in other parts of California. Chico is located in the fertile Sacramento Valley near Sacramento and San Francisco, and within reach of Los Angeles. The valley is surrounded by coastal mountains to the west and the Cascade and Sierra Nevada mountain ranges to the north and east, all of which provide spectacular scenic views. The Chico State campus is located in downtown Chico, allowing for close access to shopping, dining, student activities and evening entertainment.
